Delahunty relives playing days with Essendon

Wednesday, 4 October 2006

The Nationals Member for Lowan Hugh Delahunty attended a recent Essendon Past Players Association dinner where he was presented with his Essendon debut jumper.

“It was great to catch up with my former Essendon team mates, including Graeme Schultz a former Warracknabeal player who is now president of the Essendon Past Players Association,” Mr Delahunty said.

“My jumper was presented to me by Ken Fletcher, who is the father of Dustin and a former team mate of mine at Essendon.”

Mr Delahunty said the function was an opportunity to catch up and reminisce about his playing days. He said after commencing his football in Murtoa he transferred to Essendon and where his was the 790th player for Essendon and played 46 senior games over three seasons under coaches John Birt and Des Tuddenham.

He continued playing and coaching football for a number of years in the North Central and Wimmera Leagues and maintains a keen interest in local football across the Lowan electorate.

“Football has provided me with a number of opportunities and encouraged me to maintain an active lifestyle. Participating in not only sport, but also an active way of life, helps to achieve health and well being,” Mr Delahunty said.
